Transitional housing is pivotal in reducing recidivism. With a $5 million federal boost, housing prospects for vulnerable Brandon residents can expand. The ongoing $10 million project envisions a 24-residence facility, offering 3 to 12-month stays and fostering independent living skills. The City of Brandon's contribution of a plot at 353 16th St. N exemplifies collaborative efforts for positive change.

Southern Manitoba is currently facing a shortage of transitional housing. The closure of YWCA earlier this year has added to the challenge. Additionally, the shutdown of Meredith Place, a previous halfway house for individuals on day parole from correctional centers, has intensified the issue. To address this, the John Howard Society has commissioned pre-development architectural design for a new three-story building in partnership with Brandon's Samson Engineering Inc. The goal is to potentially have this facility operational by 2024, offering essential support to those in need.
